After the New York Jets' dramatic offseason with starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, they were only able to get six games out of him before replacing the 33-year-old with Geno Smith, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports confirmed Smith will start for the Jets this Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.

Following a career season in which he threw for 3,905 yards and 31 touchdowns in 2015, Fitzpatrick ranked 12th among quarterbacks in fantasy football with 272 points, per ESPN.com. Through six games this season, he's recorded 1,441 yards with five TDs and 11 interceptions while amassing 57 fantasy points.

For fantasy teams that have lost their starting quarterback and are looking for another option on the waiver wire, Smith suddenly becomes an option.

After IK Enemkpali broke his jaw in 2015, Smith has appeared in just two games, completing 31 passes for 296 yards. The incident took him out of the starting sweepstakes after he posted an 11-18 record with 25 touchdowns and 34 interceptions during a two-year stretch.

Combined, Smith posted 344.5 fantasy points, just 72.5 points more than Fitzpatrick in 14 more games. Those numbers just aren't good enough to carry the Jets or a fantasy football team, regardless of how desperate a team is for quarterback help.

Don't expect his numbers to take a sudden jump, even with Brandon Marshall and Quincy Enunwa—a combination Smith didn't have in 2014—anchoring the receiving group.

Still, if Smith is able to put together a couple of solid outings thanks to his dual-threat intangibles, owners could find a place for him on their rosters as a QB2.
