T.Y. Hilton and Phillip Dorsett may see their fantasy football value rise after Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Donte Moncrief suffered an injury on Sunday against the Denver Broncos.
Kevin Bowen of the Colts' official website said Moncrief was out for the remainder of Sunday's contest after he suffered the setback. The injury appears to be related to his head/neck area, according to Stephen Holden of the Indianapolis Star.
Moncrief had one reception for nine yards before exiting.
Although Hilton was already a key piece of the Colts offense, he could now become an upper-echelon fantasy wideout, depending on the severity of Moncrief's ailment. He'll be in line for an inordinately high volume of targets from Andrew Luck.
The situation will add another layer of responsibility for the 26-year-old wideout. He's always had a veteran around him to lead the receiving group, whether it be Reggie Wayne or Andre Johnson. Now he's the one expected to lead by example.
Michael Marot of the Associated Press noted it's something Hilton and Moncrief discussed coming into the 2016 campaign.
"Me and T.Y. had that talk about being the veteran guys in the room and what we have to do and how we have to set the tone every day and keep the younger guys going," Moncrief said. "That's the big thing for us, is just keeping the young guys going and keeping their head on right."
Between a potentially heavier on-field workload and carrying that off-field burden himself, there's a lot of pressure on Hilton to perform.
That said, his fantasy outlook would still improve if Moncrief remains sidelined for awhile. The Colts don't feature a ton of depth out wide, so his already-big role will expand further.
Dorsett is a high-upside player based on his blazing speed, but he's still waiting on his breakthrough. While a Moncrief absence could lead to the playing time he's been waiting on, it's not a guarantee he'll be able to handle the weekly grind of the No. 2 role, though.
Ralph Mancini of LombardiAve expressed similar concerns before the season:
Ultimately, Dorsett is still worth a waiver claim in leagues where he's available, unless Moncrief is expected to make a quick recovery. He has the potential to put up numbers worthy of a flex starter as long as he stays on the field.
Hilton's fantasy owners are the ones who figure to benefit most, though. He could be one of the top wideouts in football until his fellow starter is back to full strength.
