Grounded Atlanta Look to Fly High Against Jets Week 8 Battle in the Big Apple
The Atlanta Falcons are clearly grounded right now having lost three straight games. The 2016 NFC champions will look to fly high when they visit the New York Jets in a Week 8 Inter-conference matchup, but doing so might not be as simple as it once looked like it would be. The NFL betting spread favors the Falcons by 4.5-points over the Jets.
Now, let’s find out if Matt Ryan and the Falcons can get the road win and ATS cover as slight road favorites against a Jets team that has been way better this season than many expected. This game is going down on Sunday live from MetLife Stadium in New York while airing on FOX TV.
Atlanta Falcons Vs New York Jets Expert Pick
Atlanta Falcons (3-3) at New York Jets (3-4)
When: Sunday, October 29, 2017 at 1:00 PM ET
Where: MetLife Stadium
TV: FOX
Stream: Fox Sports Go
NFL Odds: Atlanta -4.5
Total: 46
Why Bet the Atlanta Falcons Odds at -4.5
Why bet the Falcons in this contest? Because Atlanta still has a boatload of talent on the offensive side of the ball and now, a ton of desperation to go along with it!
Atlanta has lost three straight and that they haven’t scored more than 17 points in each defeat, but the fact of the matter is that they still have an elite quarterback in 2016 league MVP Matt Ryan and an all-world wide receiver in Julio Jones, not to mention some other really good playmakers in guys like Devonta Freeman and Mohamed Sanu.
With that said, it’s still kind of hard to understand why Atlanta hasn’t scored more than 17 points in dropping each of their last three games including their embarrassing 23-7 Super Bowl rematch at New England last weekend. Just a year ago, the Falcons put over 33.0 points game on the board to lead the league in scoring. Now, Atlanta is averaging a pedestrian 21.3 points per game to rank 16th overall.
Why Bet the New York Jets Odds at +4.5
There are two really great reasons on why you should bet on the Jets. First, the Jets are about due for a win after playing great football over the last few weeks. Second, New York will be facing an Atlanta team that has looked uninterested at best the last few weeks.
The Jets got completely robbed in their 24-17 home loss to the Patriots two weeks ago when game officials took a touchdown off the board and miraculously awarded the Patriots the ball on a mystifying touchback call. Last week, New York lost a heartbreaker to Miami on a 30-yard field goal with 14 seconds remaining in regulation.
Falcons Vs Jets Expert Pick
A convincing 66 percent of the betting public likes Atlanta to get their act together and cover the spread as 4.5-point road favorites in this contest, but I’m not among them! For me, I can’t get the image out of my head of seeing Atlanta not only roll over against the Patriots last weekend out of my head, but more importantly, the way they quit like dogs against Miami two weeks ago despite leading 17-0 at the half in what would eventually turn out to be a stunning 20-17 loss to the mediocre Dolphins.
Atlanta has gone 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games in the month of October and an uninspiring 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Jets are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games and have gotten some surprisingly good play out of veteran quarterback Josh McCown this season. I guess it’s possible that Atlanta could get back to playing like the explosive team they were last season and at the start of this season, but right now, I don’t trust them one iota so I’m taking the points in my pocket and the Jets to cover!
Pick: Jets +4.5
