Can Cowboys Rebound to Get Back on Track Against Winless Niners in Week 8 matchup?

The Dallas Cowboys have dropped two straight games and are a bit desperate to get back on track and keep their playoff hopes alive as we approach the midway mark of the 2107 regular season. America’s Team will look to hand the winless San Francisco 49ers their seventh straight loss this season when they square off on Sunday, live from Levi’s Stadium at 4:05 PM ET with this contest airing on FOX TV. The Week 8 NFL betting spread favors Dallas by 6-points over San Francisco.

Dallas Cowboys Vs San Francisco 49ers Line & Expert Pick

TV: FOX

Why Bet the Dallas Cowboys Line at -6

The Cowboys have dropped two in a row, but they’re also well-rested after getting a bye last weekend following their humiliating 35-31 home loss to Aaron Rodgers and the Packers two weeks ago. The good news is that Dallas will have star running back Ezekiel Elliott on the field for this matchup after his six-game suspension was put on hold for a second time as he and the ‘Boys fight the league’s decision to bench him for a month and a half because of domestic abuse allegations.

Better still, second-year quarterback Dak Prescott is having a fine sophomore season by completing 62.6 percent of his passes for 1,192 yards with 11 touchdowns and just four interceptions. Prescott is on pace to throw 35 touchdown passes and finish with more than 3,800 passing yards.

"He’s playing really well," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. "He’s really doing everything we ask him to do. He makes so many plays within the scheme, throwing the ball to the right guy on a consistent basis. And then when things break down, making great plays with his feet and his arm out of the pocket."

Why Bet the San Francisco 49ers Line at +6

The 49ers have played some competitive football in each of their last three games despite dropping all of them. Three weeks ago, the Niners lost to Arizona 18-15 in overtime before following that up with a 26-23 overtime loss against Indianapolis. Last weekend, the Niners lost another heartbreaker by falling to Washington 26-24, but the improvement in their play has been noticeable.

Now, for this Week 7 matchup against Dallas, rookie quarterback C.J. Beathard will get the first start of his NFL career after replacing ineffective veteran Brian Hoyer last week and going 19 for 26 with one touchdown and one interception. I personally thought the grandson of longtime NFL front office man Bobby Beathard should have opened up the regular season as the starter in Frisco after seeing the way he outplayed all of the Niners’ veteran signal-callers in the preseason, but I guess it’s a case of better late than never in San Francisco.

"I know we’re 0-6 and that’s extremely tough, but I’m extremely excited about this place and excited about where we’re at and where we’re going," 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said.

Beathard will become the fourth rookie quarterback to start a game this year.

"Just being around the guy, I think you have a very tough person mentally and physically," Shanahan said of Beathard. "C.J. started a lot of games in college. I don’t think it’s too big for him. I think he’s just going to go about it like he’s gone about every other day throughout his career."

Cowboys Vs 49ers Expert Pick

Right now, there’s no denying that Dallas isn’t nearly as good as they were a year ago when they caught everyone by surprise en route to a stunning 13-win season. Having said that, I’m going to advise you to go with San Francisco to cover the spread, based mostly on the fact that they’ve been really competitive recently and will have a quarterback that can actually make plays under center in the young C.J. Beathard.

The 49ers are a perfect 4-0 ATS in their last four games against their NFC rivals, 5-1 ATS in their last six games following an SU loss and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall. Dallas has gone a discouraging 2-5 ATS in their last seven games following an ATS loss, 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games against their NFC counterparts and 1-4 ATS in their last five road games. While I’m not predicting an outright win, I do see the Niners covering the spread in their fourth straight narrow loss.

Pick: San Francisco +6
