Why Bet The Houston Texans To Beat The Patriots

The Texans’ defensive front seven is the key to this game for Houston. The Patriots defeated the Texans 34-16 in the playoffs last season when Houston was without injured J.J. Watt. He is back and healthy, but this is a banged-up football team that will come into New England this weekend. Watt went down with his back injury when his team lost at New England a year ago. Brady sat that one out as part of his four-game DeflateGate suspension.

Watt is healthy and hungry. He believes he can win the game on every single play. He also has never sacked Tom Brady. Watt recognizes his own challenge. He can get past any lineman but if Brady unloads the ball within 1.5 seconds, it doesn’t matter.

“He’s obviously probably the best quarterback of all time,” Watt said. “He’s a great player.”

On offense, mobile passer rookie Deshaun Watson may create problems for the Patriots struggling defense. New England has allowed 31.0 points per game in the first two weeks of the season. But a rookie QB has never defeated a Bill Belichick-coached team as a visiting player.

Rookie quarterbacks are 5-15 (in the first or only meeting of a rookie season) against Belichick through his time in New England. But the Foxborough numbers are even scarier — 0-8 with five touchdowns, 16 interceptions and a 50.7 passer rating.

Why Bet The New England Patriots To Beat The Texans

The New England Patriots have dominated the head-to-head series going 7-1 against the Texans in the last eight. New England is also 5-0 ATS in its last five games when playing at home against Houston.

QB Tom Brady, in particular, has been successful against Houston. He’s has a 5-1 career record against the Texans with 12 TDs and four interceptions. His 101.0 passer rating in the series speaks for itself.

Brady may have trouble finding opening pass catchers before Watt gets to him if he is without E Rob Gronkowski who has been limited in practice due to a groin injury and will be a game-time decision. The other slot option in the passing game, WR Danny Amendola, is coming out of concussion protocol. WRs Brandin Cooks and Chris Hogan are great downfield options but only viable if Brady has time.

If You Still Can’t Decide Who To Bet On

  • Texans are 13-3-1 ATS in their last 17 games after scoring less than 15 points in their previous game.
  • Patriots are 26-10-2 ATS in their last 38 home games.
  • Patriots are 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 games after scoring more than 30 points in their previous game.

Texans Vs. Patriots Week 4 Betting Tips

Gronk is a game-time decision. Even if he goes pushing off a possibly still injured groin won’t allow him to separate from defenders. The Pats offensive line won’t be able to keep Watt and Jadeveon Clowney at bay for a full four quarters. All that combined with a spread of 14.5-points and I am betting on the Texans at +14.5.
