Fantasy football owners still alive and trusting in matchups had a gigantic Week 15 ahead of the all-important Week 16.
Last week, owners surely capitalized on epic matchups for guys such as Devonta Freeman (30 points) and LeSean McCoy (28), not to mention intriguing sleepers such as Ty Montgomery (28).
With the NFL featuring few runaway teams thinking about resting starters or something silly, Week 16 is a full-go slate while owners have so much at stake.
Below, let's take a look at matchup-value comparisons and highlight some matchups and sleepers to know.
Quarterback
Matchup to Know: Philip Rivers, SD (at CLE)
Fantasy owners likely didn't make the playoffs because of San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers.
They might just win a title because of him, though. Rivers sits owned in 85.4 percent of leagues after hitting on more than 20 points in a game twice this year.
The third time, though, figures to come in Week 16 against the Cleveland Browns. Those Browns entered Week 15 predictably allowing the most points on average to quarterbacks and don't show any signs of slowing.
Rivers, though mired in a slight down year, has three or more passing scores in four games this year and less than two scores only four times. He's in for a major day when owners need it most.
Sleeper to Exploit: Blake Bortles, JAC (vs. TEN)
It's not easy to whittle down the list and find legitimate sleepers so late in the season, but Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles certainly qualifies.
Quietly among the top 15 scorers at his position this year, Bortles has the stigma of the Jaguars around him, which only gets worse this week after the team canned head coach Gus Bradley, Jacksonville announced.
Alas, Bortles looks great in a matchup against the Tennessee Titans. Though a scary team right now, the Titans hit Week 15 allowing the third-most points to opposing QBs.
Back in Week 8, Bortles roasted the Titans on the road, tossing three scores on the way to a season-high 29 points. Owners shouldn't expect him to match, but it's a strong sign he knows how to handle the Titans.
Running Back
Matchup to Know: Todd Gurley, LA (vs. SF)
It's now-or-never time for Los Angeles Rams lead back Todd Gurley.
Mired behind a miserable line and a rough passing attack, Gurley has only hit double digits four times on the season. The good news, at least, was his Week 14 outing in which he exploited a soft Atlanta Falcons rush defense for 14 points.
Gurley gets another superb matchup just like that one in Week 16 against the San Francisco 49ers, a unit that allowed the most points to backs on average entering Week 15.
Over the past two weeks, Gurley has at least 14 carries in each outing, which is a nice work rate for a player going into one of his best matchups of the year.
Sleeper to Exploit: Jonathan Stewart, CAR (vs. ATL)
Remember Carolina Panthers lead back Jonathan Stewart?
Stewart has had a quiet season, in large part because he wasn't healthy until Week 6. Since, he's posted double digits four times—three of those coming in at a minimum of 20 points. In a good matchup in Week 14, the veteran posted 12 on the Chargers.
Now, though, Stewart gets the aforementioned Falcons defense, which only ranks a few spots better than the 49ers against backs this year. Five opposing backfields have hit 24 or more points against the unit.
Given the way Stewart plays in great matchups now that he's healthy, it wouldn't be too much of a shock to see him hit 24 on his own.
Wide Receiver
Matchup to Know: Odell Beckham Jr., NYG (at PHI)
Odell Beckham Jr. might just be on his way to the biggest point total of his campaign.
Beckham's New York Giants get the Philadelphia Eagles again, whose defense allowed the second-most points to wideouts on average last week.
Beckham met these Eagles back in Week 9 and only caught four passes, though half of them went for touchdowns and 16 points. It helped him kick off a run in which he has scored double digits in six of seven games.
Another double-digit outing is a sure thing for Beckham, who has now scored in two consecutive games against stingy defenses (Dallas and Detroit). His leading the positional leaderboard after a rematch with the Eagles wouldn't come as a shock.
Sleeper to Exploit: Stefon Diggs, MIN (at GB)
It's understandable if the last thing owners want to do is rely on a member of the Minnesota Vikings.
That said, Stefon Diggs isn't a sleeper to ignore in Week 16 when he lines up against the Green Bay Packers.
Not only did the Packers allow the fourth-most points to wideouts on average over the first 14 weeks of the season, but Diggs torched the unit in Week 2, catching nine passes for 182 yards and a score, good for 24 points.
Owners shouldn't go into Week 16 expecting Diggs to set another season high, but he's a threat the Packers haven't figured out how to contain, and it's not like the unit has improved against wideouts since Week 2.
Tight End
Matchup to Know: Hunter Henry, SD (at CLE)
As it stands, Hunter Henry could probably sit in the star or sleeper category each week.
Henry resides on the same roster as Antonio Gates, so he's more of a sleeper at 29.5 percent owned. Yet he now has a touchdown in four of his last five games, even hitting nine points in Week 15 while Gates only scored one on a single catch.
Now Henry gets to feast while Rivers lights up the Browns. Sounds simple enough, though for further proof, keep in mind the Browns entered last week allowing the second-most points to the position on average.
The threat of Gates stealing Henry's production always hangs there, but the 36-year-old hasn't been much of a factor for five weeks. And against a team like the Browns, there is always plenty to go around.
Sleeper to Exploit: Charles Clay, BUF (vs. MIA)
Buffalo Bills tight end Charley Clay has decided to break out this year at the best possible time for fantasy owners.
Clay, without double digits through 13 weeks, now has back-to-back outings at 11 or more points with touchdowns in each of his last two outings.
Owners can expect this trend to continue in Week 16, where Clay gets to beat up on the Miami Dolphins. The defense allowed the sixth-most points to tight ends on average entering Week 15 and has allowed three touchdowns to the position over the past four weeks.
Look for Clay to have another huge day. Owners in need will probably want to look his way—he's owned in 9.7 percent of leagues.
