If star power was the defining trait in fantasy football, a guy such as Denver Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian wouldn't have led all scorers at his position in Week 3.

Recognizable names can only take fantasy owners so far. These guys, though a rare breed, are still human and susceptible to the occasional hiccup if placed in a poor situation, whether it is a bad matchup, injuries to teammates or something else.

Replacing a star player who has to take a seat for a week isn't fun or easy. Barring a miracle, though, the owners who do it properly usually go on to win their leagues.

Here is a look at matchup comparisons for some of the notable names this week.

Quarterback

Star to Know: Carson Palmer, ARI (vs. LA)

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer isn't even the most notable Carson in town this year.

Jokes aside, Palmer went full face plant last week, totaling three points while throwing four picks in a bad matchup against the Buffalo Bills. Such a line makes it easy to hesitate with the veteran, but keep in mind he gets to take on the Los Angeles Rams this week.

The Rams faced their first competent and fully healthy quarterback of the season last week in the form of Jameis Winston of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In doing so, the defense coughed up 405 yards, three scores and 25 fantasy points.

Palmer gets to regroup at home and looks to have his third outing of 18 or more points against a familiar foe.

Star to Sit: Eli Manning, NYG (at MIN)

Fantasy owners who have to ride with New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning seem in a much worse spot than Palmer owners.

Despite having weapons such as Odell Beckham Jr. and Victor Cruz, Manning has sputtered to 14 or fewer points over his last two games in situations where he should have scored plenty (against New Orleans and Washington).

It's not time to drop Manning, but he needs to ride the pine against the Minnesota Vikings. If a team known for its defense isn't enough to discourage owners, keep in mind the unit has allowed a maximum of 16 fantasy points—and that came against Aaron Rodgers. Oh, and Cam Newton mustered 12.

Running Back

Star to Know: LeGarrette Blount, NE (vs. BUF)

With Tom Brady out of the picture, the New England Patriots have belonged to LeGarrette Blount and his 95.6 percent of owners.

The number should be 100 percent with Blount starting in every league, but maybe not everyone wants to win. Blount has outings of 11, 18 and 22 points thus far with four total touchdowns.

A wrecking ball, Blount is the focal point for one more week with Brady out and quarterbacks Jacoby Brissett and Jimmy Garoppolo nursing injuries.

It is all good news for Blount owners. The Bills have been one of the worst teams against backs so far, allowing 22 or more points to opposing backfields twice and five rushing scores over the past two outings alone.

Star to Sit: Lamar Miller, HOU (vs. TEN)

At this pace, Houston Texans running back Lamar Miller might go down as the most disappointing player in all of fantasy this year.

Owned more than Blount (99.8 ownership percentage), Miller has so far replicated his time in Miami by scoring no more than 11 points in a game and having yet to rush for a touchdown. The schedule hasn't been the easiest, but the high of 11 came by way of a cupcake matchup against the winless Chicago Bears.

Now Miller has to deal with the Tennessee Titans, which is more difficult than it might sound. The Titans have allowed only one rushing touchdown to a back on the year and a maximum of 17 fantasy points to entire backfields.

This includes limiting Adrian Peterson to three points in Week 1.

Wide Receiver

Star to Know: Alshon Jeffery, CHI (vs. DET)

Alshon Jeffery owners have every right to throw anger toward the Bears.

In a favorable matchup against the Dallas Cowboys last week, Jeffery saw only seven targets, while the young Kevin White got 14. Given the trend and injuries under center, Jeffery has yet to score or total more than 10 points.

That changes in Week 4.

Jeffery meets the Detroit Lions, a team he has five touchdowns against over as many recent encounters.  Detroit has looked hapless against the position this year too, allowing outings of 28 and 33 points to wideouts. The exception was a 13-point outing against Tennessee, which is not exactly a pass-happy team.

Expect the Bears to look Jeffery's way early and often. If his data against the Lions is this accessible, rest assure the team knows about it and will use it, too.

Star to Sit: Brandon Marshall, NYJ (vs. SEA)

Sorry, but playing a wideout whose quarterback tossed six interceptions the week prior doesn't sound like the best idea.

Owners probably know this concerns New York Jets wideout Brandon Marshall, as quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has been a punch line all week thanks to his performance. Marshall has suffered right alongside his quarterback, going for 10 points once and five total points between two other outings.

Marshall continues to play through a knee injury, which normally wouldn't be a major red flag. But Fitzpatrick has been off his game, and a visit from the Seattle Seahawks is on deck.

Those Seahawks have allowed the fewest points to wideouts on average to start the season, having held two entire sets of wide receivers to seven or fewer points. Marshall might not break such a number on his own, all things considered.

Tight End

Star to Know: Dennis Pitta, BAL (vs. OAK)

The Dennis Pitta breakout game didn't happen against the Jacksonville Jaguars last weekend.

Instead, the Baltimore Ravens tight end scored only four points, giving him a pair of outings under 10 points to start the year despite plenty of anticipation around his return and rapport with quarterback Joe Flacco.

Still, owners can't ignore Pitta against the Oakland Raiders this weekend. The Raiders have allowed 28 points to wideouts over the unit's past two outings. Pitta has incredible usage too, sitting on 24 targets, second only to Steve Smith Sr. (26).

Usage means a quality floor in a good matchup, with a fantasy matchup-winning ceiling as the top prize.

Star to Sit: Delanie Walker, TEN (at HOU)

The struggling Tennessee passing attack and injuries have hampered Delanie Walker to start the season.

According to Jim Wyatt of the team's official website, the Titans expect Walker back in the fold this weekend against Houston.

That's great, but Walker scored four points in Week 1 and 14 the week after. He's all over the place, and an encounter with the Texans doesn't seem like the best situation.

Not only did Walker never score more than six points against the Texans over two games last year, but Houston has yet to allow more than three points to opposing tight ends this season. Walker will have his big days, but this weekend won't be one of them.
